Laurence and Stefani Heisler are the owners of Checkmate Charters. Laurence has enjoyed fishing his whole life and it was his dream to one day own a charter fishing boat and business. Other than fishing, Laurence enjoys traveling, golf and spending time with the family.
Baseball was also a passion for Laurence. He played at St. Cloud High School, and went on to play at The University of Florida and UCF. After graduating college, Laurence signed a professional contract with the Philadelphia Phillies and played in the minors for 3 years. In 2004, Laurence played in the Olympics in Athens, Greece for the Greek Olympic Baseball Team.
Stefani grew up in Titusville, Florida and ended up at UCF and UF, graduating with a Physician Assistant degree. She now owns a Med-Spa in Winter Park, Florida. Stefani loves the outdoors, traveling and spending time on the water.
Laurence and Stefani live on Bear Lake in Apopka, Florida with their daughter Mallori and son Jacob.

Captain Nate has been local to Port Canaveral for about 20 years. He grew up fishing offshore every chance he could on his Grandfather’s boat and local charter boats with his mother.
Being around the Port so much landed him his first job as a First Mate at the age of 16. As soon as the coast guard would allow it he went and got his captain’s license at age 18 and has been at it ever since. Holding a 100-ton Master’s License today he has ran everything from small private port tours to the 90’ head boats offshore on fishing excursions.
His primary focus today is in the private charters, fishing offshore for various sport fish and sharks. The private trips allows him to interact one on one with the customers, while teaching them his techniques and knowledge to help them land these hard fighting Ocean fish.
Captain Nate is one of the most recognized and respected Captains in the Port and his communication with his network of Captains and mates ensures his clients the best chance to get “on the bite.”
